TOEFL

This test is one of the most respected and widely accepted English proficiency testing systems in the world. Over 10,000 universities, colleges, and institutions in over 130 countries accept the results of this examination. The TOEFL iBT (internet based test) has rapidly replaced the TOEFL CBT and PBT (computer based tests and paper based tests). This test is designed to check your English proficiency at the university level. It tests how you combine reading, writing, listening and speaking to perform academic tasks. The test is administered by Educational Testing Service, a private non-profit organization. The scores of this exam are accepted by universities, for immigration purposes as well as for the purpose of working abroad.

Format

The test format contains of writing, reading, speaking and listening modules. The individual score for all these modules are a maximum of 30 each. The student is given a final score out of 120. The reading section can last for 60 to 80 minutes, listening can last for 60 to 90 minutes, writing can last for 50 minutes while speaking can last for 20 minutes. There are over 50 test dates per year at test centers all over the world. The test can be taken as many times as an individual wants, however, it cannot be taken more than once in a 12-day period. The entire test is supposed to be given on one day and can last for about 4 hours but one should plan to spend 4 and a half hours in the process
