IELTS

This examination is designed so as to assess the English language skills of the candidates who need to study or work in countries where English is the primary language for communication. This examination is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. This examination makes it a point to conform to all the highest international standards of the English language assessment. There are a total of four language skills that are assessed in this examination – reading, writing, speaking and listening. This examination is recognized by universities and employers in a number of countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA. These test results are recognized by professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

Format

IELTS International English Language Testing System examination tests the student's reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. The listening and speaking modules format for both academic and general are the same. The formate will be different of academic and general training modules only in reading and writing.

The examination is conducted in two separate day. The first day tests the student’s listening, reading and writing skills, this can go on for almost three hours, with each module having a specific timeline. The second session, held within the next seven days, will test the student on their speaking abilities and this test could take up to 30 minutes. Each of the 4 modules are scored separately out of a maximum score of 9. The score denotes the proficiency level of the individual.

    Four Modules In IELTS

    Listening

    30 minutes test in which you have to listen four recordings of English native speakers and give answers from their conversions and monologues. You will get additional 10 minutes to write your answers

    Reading

    60 minutes test consists of 40 questions to test reading skills of candidates that includes, reading for main ideas, gist, and details as well as understand the writer’s opinion, purpose, attitude, etc

    Writing

    60 minutes test comprises two tasks. In Task 1, you have to describe the graphical presentation such as a diagram or graph, chart, table in your own word. Moreover, describe and explain data, describe process stages, an object, or event as well as how something works. In Task 2, 150 words summary and 250 words short essay.

    Speaking

    In 11 to 14 minutes test, In part 1, you will ask general question about yourself, family, home, studies, and interests. In part 2, you have to choose a topic from one card to talk on it and examiner will ask 2-3 questions from it. In part 3, you have to discuss more on your topic of part 2.
